Strings Progress... from Kat & Cat Quilts

In case you missed the post earlier this week, CiL is now affiliated with another charity who will help us with discounted shipping!  Check out the details here and never pay more than $15 to ship to us again!

String quilts 13-15 are ready for their debut! I have put together all of these and really enjoyed working with all the different color combinations and blocks.  I really like this yellow/brown/red color fade, even though I did sort of lose the plot on that upper right corner.

Blue and brown, always a classic combination. These are from the ...

Fiddlesticks Wrap Up from Kat & Cat Quilts

November and a new blocks drive, how time flies! There aren't many things that I find more satisfying than wrapping up a block drive.

We've just finished off the last of the quilts from last Sept/Oct's Fiddlesticks drive. These first 4 were assembled by Pam and quilted by Linda.

The quilting design above with the zig-zag circles is one of my favorites. And I love the color layout on the quilt below. Especially from a distance, it looks awesome.

Sort of feathered shell quilting on this one.

Another really pretty design with pastels on a ...

Pinwheel Drive Wrap Up from Kat & Cat Quilts

Top assembled by Holly M, quilted by Pam M

It's been a little while for this one. The pinwheel drive was in March-April of 2020, at the very beginning of the pandemic! It seems like longer than a year and a half ago. I picked this design because I thought we could use something easy and happy.

Most of the quilts from this drive were finished quite a while ago, but these 3 tops were still hanging around, looking at me from their shelf.  Pam rescued me and finished them up.

I loved this novelty backing to go with ...

More Fiddlesticks Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Welcome back to the rainbow forest! That's what I think when I see the quilt above. These are Fiddlesticks quilts 6-12 from last Fall's block drive

The first 2 quilts were pieced and quilted by Pam. She has a great knack for color coordinating the blocks.

These next four quilts were quilted by Linda. Two were pieced by Pam and two by Linda.

I would not have made it through the past year without these two ladies and others who have taken on quilting duties to help with the block drives!

You can see previous quilts from this ...

Sand and Sea (so far) from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday! Lots of fun quilts to show this week from the May/June block drive.

As may of you probably remember, Tammy guest hosted the May/June block drive. She picked out a large eye-spy blocks in sand and sea colors and has been steadily finishing them into quilts!

There was a great response to this drive and Tammy has been busy! Fortunately she has help from her friends at a charity quilt shop in Leavenworth Kansas.

I really like the different ways they have come up with to arrange the blocks, like this one with the dark-to-light fades ...

2020 Oh My Stars! Wrapup from Kat & Cat Quilts

Thank you to those who have responded to my appeal for backing fabrics! I did get one mystery box this week, someone ordered 108" width fabric from Marshall Dry Goods and shipped it to me.  Thank you, whoever you are.  Several of you have ordered from or recommended Marshall Dry Goods to me, I had never heard of them before and I love their designs and prices!

Happy weekend quilters! We're wrapping up last year's red white and blue block drive just in time for the 2021 drive to start. Starting off with a few bonus quilts, Erin ...

These are the first quilts finished from the block drive donations, previously I posted and showed you the quilt that Linda D. made, which you can see here.

These next three were assembled and quilted by ...

Strings #3 from Kat & Cat Quilts

Five more string quilts from January makes 12 total finished comfort quilts for Covered in Love! This first one with the pastel blocks is one of my favorites so far.

There will eventually by 19 of these. (There is actually another one done, but there was a major dye-running incident so I'm still working on it...)  I really like the way they look arranged into color blocks.

The rainbow quilts are definitely stunners. I have made 4 of them so far.  I love the way the little bursts of contrasting color jump out.

They're beautiful quilts, but also ...

Tammy has 2 more May/June block drives quilts finished on her blog!

Another block drive is in the books; all 5 quilts from the Nov/Dec Sunflowers block drive are done!  The first one, at the top of this page, was assembled and quilted by me.

These next 3 were assembled and quilted by Cynthia from Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  She helped Covered in Love to get a handful of quilts finished earlier this year.

You can see Cynthia's pictures of these first two quilts on her blog here. I was expecting Cynthia to make 2 ...

Finally Wrapping Up 2019 Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Yes, that's right, these quilts are late-finishers from the Sept-Oct 2019 block drive.  These four tops were sent in by Gail and "aged" for a while until Linda quilted them! Perhaps a record for longest block drive running?

Honestly it's nice to have quilts pop up so long after a drive, makes the design seem special again. And of course Linda's wonderful quilting puts them over the top.

I had to take a picture of some of the backings, too. Gail always sends in the best backings with her tops.  Aren't these batik butterflies a beauty ...

Star Quilts and the May-June Block Drive from Kat & Cat Quilts

Details about the May-June block drive at the bottom of the post.

It's getting a little closer to summer time everyday and I have more red, white, and blue stars quilts to share.  These always remind me of July and summer BBQs.

These first four quilts were tops made by Gail and quilt by Linda on her longarm.  I visited Chaplain Perry at the hospital today and he again mentioned that the red, white, and blue or patriotic quilts are usually the ones that first grab people when they look at available quilts.

These past 2 months, while I ...

More String Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Three more string quilts to show you this week! I got these done and needed to get them photographed in time to take them up to the hospital last week. Unfortunately that meant photos on a cold windy day! Sorry you can't quite see the entire quilts, one row was folded over.

I really really love the color combo in this first quilt. It was inspired by a set of about 10 blocks set in with blues, brows, coppers, and maroon.  I pulled complimentary blocks to match and make an entire tops out of them.

Next, this one has ...

Red, White, and Blue Quilts Delivered from Kat & Cat Quilts

Linda and I (but let's be honest, mostly Linda) are still chugging away on last year's RWB blocks.  We've just got a few quilts left to go from these, which as many of you know are perennial favorites at the hospital.

These went up with a delivery last Friday while I there with my first level students.  In order to make the drop off work Chaplain Perry actually had to take my keys and go load the quilts from my car into his since I'm not allowed to leave the building while my students are there ...

First Strings of the Year from Kat & Cat Quilts

I decided to go ahead and get working on the string blocks during our snow storm.  These are the string blocks foundation pieced onto batting that CiL did for our Jan/Feb drive.   You can see my tutorial on how I am assembling and "quilting" them here

I'm having a lot of fun picking our color groups and playing with  patterns. The top quilt is pink, purple, and yellow moving in a diagonal across the quilt.

Next is blue, aqua, and green color blocks.  I've decided it looks best when I have all the stripes slanting the same ...

Spring Sunshine on a Cold Day from Kat & Cat Quilts

It's cold here! I know it isn't as cold as it is some places, but for Texas it's been steadily cold and wet and I've had about enough.  Time for some sweet spring colors with quilts 19-22 of last year's Spring Pinwheel drive.

These tops were made by Gail and sent in as kits with their backing and bindings. I love the backing fabrics she finds!

Aren't those old fashioned labels on the backing too cute?

I quilted these with a cozy stipple and they went up to the hospital with the last batch ...

Quilts and 2020 Retrospective from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy New Year!  We're plugging right along with block drive finishes. These six Spring Pinwheel quilts bring us to 18 from the March/April block drive.

All six of these were assembled and quilted by me with my trademark easy stipple.

I have to give huge props to Gail, Nicki, and Holly who sent in prepped bindings which really helped mew with finishing these quilts.

I love these little Boston Terrier faces!

I really liked this particular backing fabric.

There are still about 7 more of these pinwheel quilts to come.  I love how happy the colors are , definitely ...

Merry Christmas, Have Some Quilts! from Kat & Cat Quilts

Merry Christmas quilters! This is my faaaaavorite holdiday; I love the whole Christmas season.  I am now working on a Covid unit and volunteered to work the holiday so my family celebrated on Wednesday.

These first two quilts were assembled and quilted by Linda D. from blocks sent in by Mina during the July/August block drive.

There's another star quilt that Mina sent in in this post, so that's a total of three from her for the summer stars drive!

As many of you know, these patriotic star quilts are some of the most popular ones that ...

Strings 2020 Wrap Up from Kat & Cat Quilts

Yes, just short of a year from it's kick off the 2020 string block drive is wrapping up. Thanks to the many of you who participated in this drive, like Beth T. who made the top above and Kathy C. who quilted it!

I love the gingerbread man backing this quilt! The rest of these were assembled by a combination of Pam M. and me and quilted by me.

The seven quilts here plus those previously posted bring us to a total of 23 out of an expected 24 from this drive. There is still one out in the ...

Thankful for the Helpers from Kat & Cat Quilts

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Fred Rogers

Happy Thanksgiving, quilters! I hope you are warm and maybe enjoying some cozier, smaller gathering than usual this year amidst everything that's going on.  This year I'm more thankful than ever for all my helpers! Like Beth T. who sent in this top, and Kathy who quilted it.  The seven quilts in this post bring us to 12 for the March/April block drive ...
